ISIMANGALISO/ GREATER ST LUCIA WETLAND PARK
Listed as South Africa’s first World Heritage Site in 1999, the iSimangaliso/Greater St Lucia Wetland Park is situated on the east coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, approximately 275 km (171 miles) north of Durban. This pristine 332 000 hectare (820 372 acre) conservation area contains three major lake systems, eight interlinking ecosystems, most of South Africa’s remaining swamp forests, Africa’s largest estuarine system, 526 bird species and 25 000 year old coastal dunes.

iSimangaliso is South Africa’s third largest protected area and the largest protected wetland in Southern Africa, boasting impressive sand dunes, swamps, coastal forests, rocky shores, coral reefs, canyons, mangroves, woodlands and thickets. The Park is home to 1 200 Nile crocodiles, 800 hippos, 100 coral species, 1 200 fish species, 80 dragonfly species and 110 butterfly species.
Guests delight in game drives, birding safaris, guided walks on beautiful trails, turtle tours, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, scuba diving and snorkelling.
iSimangaliso is the Zulu word for ‘marvel and wonder’, an appropriate name for this incredibly diverse and beautiful part of the world.
